August Monthly Newsletter

Shoot! We thought we would have time to publish this before the end of the month but September came in quick!

We haven’t talked about this much before, but there are really important reasons to buy local fresh flowers. Not only are you supporting a  small business which helps the community as a whole to thrive and sustain a positive impact on the local economy, but …

  • Let’s Talk Freshness! Our flowers are never harvested more than 36 hrs. prior to an event or sale. The longevity of these flowers are thus unmatched. We hear every week at the market how pleased our customers are ! Imported flowers are often harvested up to two weeks prior to making it to the grocery store displays. These flowers have been sprayed with all kinds of “-cides” (insecticide, herbicide) to maintain freshness or the appearance of freshness to include coloring. Nope – none of that here.

  • Less Travel and Packaging! Reducing transportation has all sorts of benefits to the environment both by air and ground. Little to no carbon emission by buying local , like from your very own neighborhood. Imported flowers are highly packaged to protect petals and stems. We have seen first-hand how these flowers arrive from overseas. Plastic, cardboard galore. You know where this goes – enough said.

  • Ethical Growing and Transparency! Knowing exactly where your flowers (produce, meat, etc.) are coming from is one of the hallmarks of buying from local farmers. We have read just recently about many workers in the international floral industry earning exceptionally low wages which don’t even support the individual not to mention their family. You know us – and if you don’t we welcome you to come visit!

  • Seasonal Beauty! Our market jars, events and donations are truly reflective of what is growing in the field at present. This array of flowers is every changing both in variety and color. Temperature fluctuations promote blooms we didn’t even know we had – especially the much anticipated cooler temps.

This all leads me to the gratitude portion of the newsletter. MANY of my customers say they know they have a choice between local and imported and really like choosing our flowers and we say … THANK YOU! Just last week we provided flowers for a rehearsal dinner for an out of town family. Easily they could have easily ordered arrangements from a florist, but instead searched out a local flower farmer and found us, and we now have a new friend!
