Happy New Year flower fans! So amidst the snow and ice and frigid sub-freezing temperatures, we over here at Powhatan Posies are coming out of hibernation…a bit. 

“When the garden sleeps, the gardener plans” is so true. Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes: Seed, dahlia tuber, rose vendors are all attracting our attention and the time to order is now. First though, we assess the seed inventory, determine how they will be sown, and where (loosely) the baby seedlings will go. Changes to the garden layout are being considered and the initial drafting of our two gardens (“Premium Posies” and “Cut Flower”) with plant and seedling layout has begun. Additionally, plugs (professionally grown seedlings) are being ordered and the persistent question of “what’s missing” is constantly on our minds. Fact: Often orders are made in the middle of the night when insomnia ensues and best decisions are made – ha! It’s a surprise in the morning what will be delivered for Powhatan Posies 2025. 😊

Rifle Paper Co. 2025 Planner

Shout out to our favorite vendors! Rifle makes the best oversized agendas for recording it all! The 2025 “Roses” graphic is just so pretty. Johnny’s Seeds, Dollar Tree Seeds (yep!), Sarah’s Cottage Creations (dahlia tubers and seeds), Triple Wren (dahlia seeds), Floret (seeds), True Leaf Market (seeds), Swan Island (dahlia tubers), and too many small dahlia farms in the PSW to name for tubers are absolutely worth checking out too. Heirloom Roses runs great specials and we are constantly looking to them for David Austin’s and other beauties. 

So keep warm flower fans and enjoy the coziness of this season. We 100% embrace the Hygge life-style around here and highly recommend these practices that make our home, selves and each other feel just so good…and content. ❤️
