March Monthly Newsletter

Welcome ! We thought today (First Day of Spring 2024) would be the perfect day to launch our new website. Our web designer, Paige, has been diligently working on our site behind the scenes during our “off” season and we couldn’t be more thrilled – hope you agree!

Writing a monthly blog post has been something I have wanted to do for a very long time. Mainly because I so enjoy reading those of fellow flower farmers and floral designers. There is SO much that goes on behind the scenes (planning, purchasing, seed starting)  to prepare the fields for the loveliness you see in person or on our social media sites and we can’t wait to share this with you!

Real quick … I have mentioned our web designer extraordinare Paige above and other (human) team members are myself (Lynette, lead gardener and professional “smile maker”) and my super supportive husband (Michael, co- gardener and heavy lifter). Johnny and Cindy (feline mousers) and Minnie and Mickey (canine cuteness) round out the rest of the team… So now you know the players and time to meet the growing space!

We grow on approximately ½ an acre which was previously a field. So awesome because the gardens abut up to the extremely healthy field where pollinators and birds happily travel between both. Our Cut-Flower Garden (popular with you-pickers for the majority of the season) is home to 12 rows (3-4’ x 52’) of mostly annuals (direct seeded in the soil and/or via seedlings which have been *winter sown (told you we have been busy!) and several new rows of perennials. This year we have also splurged on some “plugs” or “starts” which are tiny seedlings grown by other farmers who have had great success with that particular flower or filler. This season we are going for VARIETY and we think you will LOVE the selection!

Our Specialty Garden is home to 10 rows (3-4’ x 52’)  of perennials which, okay true confession, are my flower babies. Two rows of assorted color peonies. Wow – they are lovely! (If we do say so ourselves) Seven rows of assorted size shape and color of dahlias (both established and new varieties) and brand new this year, one row of the very extraordinary and well known David Austin ® roses. I have chosen those perfect in color and for cut flower arrangements. REALLY can not wait to see these mature and bloom! New this year are “companion plants” for the dahlia and roses which have been known to assist in disease.

So that is the layout of the flower farm – I will also bring flowers and fillers from my yard over to the farm for adding to your special arrangement every so often…

You know our teammates, layout of the gardens now and can find all useful information on this site… what else would YOU like to know? Thank you so much for joining along on our flower farming adventures!

Lynette and Mike

*Notes:

“Winter Sowing “– a seed germination method starting in January-Feb with cool annual/perennial seeds (those that should be sown into cold soil) and morphing into Spring Sowing with warm annual seeds (those that can only be sown into warm soil)
